write access to registry

Hello,

G'day

Does anyone know what this means and how to fix this issuse:

When re-installing Symantec's LIVE UPDATE on my PC (WinXP-pro, SP2), Live
Update cannot install one of its components because it says I need "... write
access to registry." ???

Shouldn't I already have registry rights if the User Account I am installing
this program with, has admin.priviledges - and was the same account that
installed it the first place?

Have I done something to my reigistry that has disabled this "write"
function, how can I find out and how can I fix this?

Anyone's help is greatly appreciated!!!

Applications can lock keys ... I know for a fact because ZoneAlarm locks
it's Run key in the registry.

Since this is a re-install, I would look to see if Symantec has put
something in your:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

key. If Symantec is running, if may lock certain keys in the registry.
Preventing Symantec from running at startup, may unlock keys that re-install
Symantec needs to modify.

You may also have to check services.msc to see if Symantec added a service
to be started when the system comes up.
Change this to Disabled and reboot.

Have you tried to re-install in safe mode.

Thanks Larry!

I have yet to try and install in Safe Mode.

I will go on and disable Symantec in startup and check the registry you
described.

Cheers!
