WPD Viewer - MS Office XP and OpenOffice.org can't cut it?

My daughter has one dinosaur teacher, love using WordPerfect, latest
version, and MS Office XP can not interpret all sections therefore some is
lost or unreadable, also I see OpenOffice.org which I use rather frequently
does not even have a wpd input filter so can not even attempt to open it.

I downloaded the 30 day trial of Quick View Plus 7 and it works great for
viewing but will expire in 30 days.

So is there a Freeware/OpenSource/Regware/Cardware solution to viewing and
printing Wordperfect 8/9 or 10 .wpd files?

TIA

Why not ask her to save the files as either .doc (Word), or PDF?
WordPerfect does a MUCH better job of converting to and from Word than
Word does the other way around. You say that she has the latest
version. If you really mean that, that the version is 11, then its
Publish to PDF feature is very good indeed. It's not just dinosaurs
using WordPerfect, the suite is now included in many PC packages from
companies including Dell and Sony.

Anything here?
WMA files
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/en/download/default.asp
There are tools for making/editing wma and wmv files.

As the links you provide suggest, Boomer, the "wm" in "wma" and "wmv"
stands for "Windows Media" - they have absolutely nothing to do with
wpd (WordPerfectDocument) files. The best converters, almost the only
converters, for wpd files, are those in WordPerfect itself, take it
from a devoted user.

There are command line tools for converting wpd to OOo called wpm2sxw
(sorry don't know a link, ask at OOOforum.org)
StarOffice 5.2 for windows was able to read wpd files as well (not the
linux version ;-().

No no , its the teacher away from class saving on-line downloads about
class lessons thats saving and using Wordperfect, my daughter has no
control over this, the teacher has made it quite clear that he is only
useing Wordperfect and will not switch to a more universally viewable
format.

Ah, sorry. Now I see your problem. I don't know of a reliable freeware
solution, unfortunately.

Short answer-- no.

I use WP10, cause I'm one of those dinosaurs who can't find anything
else to do what it does with "reveal codes," and have the same problem
with the unconverted out there who can't read my stuff.. There are a
few things, like Star Office, that can read earlier versions of WP,
but later versions confuse them all..

If there's not that much formatting, I save as .rtf. and anyone can
read it. The main reason I use WP, though, is because of the
formatting features and complex docs are saved as .pdfs, which WP does
a good job with. That, however, obviously causes problems if someone
wants to do more than view or print them.

Once in a while, I can save them as .doc files, and most of the
formatting remains.

If anyone does know of a free WP10 reader/converter, I 'd sure like
to know about it, too.
