I am trying to install WPA on my Windows XP Pro laptop.
I downlaoded and applied patch # Q815485, the patch does
not appear in my software installation window even though
a system message said that the patch was installed.

I then go to the Window's wireless connection setting to
reset my encryption settings to WPA (inplace of WEP that
I am currently using) but the option does not appear.

I have try these procedure on two seperate laptops
running Windows XP Pro without any luck. Can you please
help me. Dell support (800.624.9896 X-69219) was unable
to help even though they are the OEM supplier.

Can we assume that you also upgraded the firmware/drivers for the wireless adaptor installed in this laptop

Installing the Windows XP Wireless patches will not do you any good unless your wireless card also supports WP

Yes, my adapter card is an SMC 2532W which will support WPA at the current firmware level. My main issue is that the WPA encryption does not appear as an option when setting my connection properties.
