Would you suggest (1) Anti-Spyware program, and (2) Registry Cleaners ?

Hello,

I'm new to this. I just bought a Fujitsu laptop with Win XP home,
and NAV 2004 as the primary defense for virus. I want my computer
in top performance and free of contamination. I appreciate your
thoughts.

For Anti-Spyware, I have in mind:

1. Webroot(TM) Spy Sweeper

For Registry Cleaners:

1. Advance System Optimizer

Other suggestions?

Don't be in too much of a rush to spend money when there are freeware
alternatives to the $70.00 worth of software you are considering.

Spyware/adware: Spybot S&D: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
AdAware:

Registry cleaners: CrapCleaner: http://www.ccleaner.com/
RegCleaner:

Ian.

I decided, for now, to bail out in buying the software I mentioned
below. And although money is not a problem this time, I'm strongly
considering some of the suggestion you've given me.

Thank you again.

Let us know what you decide on, and how things work out for you.

Patches and firewall
Feed yourself good info; show file name .ext etc.
Spyware Blaster to kill-bit and restrict commercial malware
Spybot and AdAware for anti-cm sweeps
Consider non-MS edgeware, e.g. Eudora, Netscape
For Anti-Spyware, I have in mind:
1. Webroot(TM) Spy Sweeper

Pass. It's not free, and it runs underfoot... so I'd rather vaccinate
with Spyware Blaster (free), sweep when needed, and use web browsers
and settings that don't suck.
For Registry Cleaners:
1. Advance System Optimizer

Forget "regisrty cleaners", IMO - don't install junk and then rely on
some clueless auto-fixer to attempt cleanup, at the risk of breaking
things you can't fix. If you can fix registry, then rather clean it
up by hand in the first place!

It's also not free, so that's another reason to walk on by. Rather
make a donation to the Spybot guy ;-)

-- Risk Management is the clue that asks:
"Why do I keep open buckets of petrol next to all the
ashtrays in the lounge, when I don't even have a car?"

Just don't make the mistake of paying money to buy something.
There are free software tools out there that do a good job.

use
1anti virus prog
2firewall
3adaware se
4spybot
5spysweeper
6hijackthis
7winpatrol
8iespyad

some will say this is too much, but not one prog can't find everything so
better be safe then sorry.
untill last week i only had the first 5,but still there was adware,i killed
it with hijackthis.

If you want top performance, you should dump that NAV2004 'antivirus'. Get
NOD32 instead:
