I have a laptop running Windows 2000 Professional.

Can someone please explain how I can boot up in DOS mode?... Do I need to create some sort of boot disk

I would appreciate some detailed instructions as I am not that familiar with Windows

DOS is an operating system (Disk Operating System). It does not exist under
Win2000. What you probably mean is the Command Prompt. However, this is a
process like any other that requires Win2000 to run first.

If you want to have a look at your hard disk outside Win2000 then you can do
this:
- Boot with a Win98 boot disk from www.bootdisk.com.
- Run ntfsdos.exe so that you can see your ntfspartition. The read-only
version is freely available at www.sysinternals.com.

If you explain in detail what you're trying to achieve then someone may have
further hints for you.
