worthwhile upgrade?

my current rig:

Asus P4S533 M/B, P4 [email protected], 1 gig ram, GF4200Ti (o/c 275 core, 550 mem)

I'm thinking of an ATI 9800 pro or should I wait for the Nvidia 6600 (will
it be available in AGP?).

TIA

The AGP version will follow the PCI Express version by about a month
according to Nvidia. Assuming they are on time with the release of the 6600,
I'd guess the AGP will come in October.

Plus if you get the 6600 you could get another at a later date and go SLI
(PCI Express only) Not sure if there are any twin AGP MoBo's out there!!

That means two new motherboards, one now with a PCI Express slot to hold the
PCI Express 6600 and another one in a year or two when somebody finally
ships one with two x16 PCI Express slots. Personally I think that unless
he's planning on upgrading his motherboard right now he'd do better to stay
with an AGP board and if he wants dual video wait until there's a dual X16
motherboard available. Which probably won't be before 2006. And don't
bother posting any links that purport to show that it will be available
"real soon now"--the only PCI Express chipsets currently available are from
Intel and even the ones that the SLI advocates are touting (a) do not
support two x16 slots--before you argue check the datasheets on the Intel
site--they are considerably at variance with what the advocates are
claiming and (b) even the ones that can support one x16 and one x8 are
workstation chipsets that require Xeons. So you won't see dual x16 for a
reasonably priced processor until Intel ships another generation of
chipsets unless AMD or SiS or Via decide to make one, and they haven't even
announced any such products.
