Worm re-entry nightmare

My sister's Windows 2000 system was seriously ruined by
the blaster worm. She couldn't even click an icon on the
desktop without getting the iexplore.exe error and the
computer would shut down. I removed the worm with
symantec's worm tool but the damage was already done.
Reinstallation of windows did not correct the issue so I
had to reformat her computer and do a fresh install. The
problem now is that she had a pre-service pack disk of
2000 so I need all the service packs before I can install
the worm patch. Every time I try to run windows update
the computer is reinfected and Update fails at the point
where you chose what updates you wish to install. I know
it's the worm because I can log-off the internet and re-
run the worm removal tool and it finds the worm. But if
update fails I can't get her updates. I've tried three
times. I have XP and I wanted to know if I can somehow
download the service packs for 2000 and the patch to save
to disk so I can take them to my sister. Any suggestions?

Install a firewall, try zonealarm, www.zonealarm.com

This should stop the worm re infecting unless of course it has not been
removed properly. I noticed on a customers computer the it did not remove
the blaster.exe file, but renamed it. I always feel safer with it gone.
Try the firewall first, iif not you can download the service pack and save
to disk, you only need to install the latest SP4, as they are cumulative.

On your XP you can indeed download the W2K SP4. Go to download.microsoft.com
and look for it. Choose the network-instal option which saves the SP to your
disk.
