worksheet problem

I want to use the compare and merge workbooks process, but I cannot figure out how to get past the error I am getting. The error states:
this workbook cannot be merged. Workbooks to be merged must be copies made from the same shared workbook and must all maintain the change history for a sufficient amount of time.

What am I doing wrong. Please Help.

What are you trying to merge?
If you look in Excel's help, under 'Troubleshoot merging workbooks', you'll see details on what can be merged.

a column of numbers. I dont know how I can get it to merge. what does it mean when it says that I have to have copies made from the same shared workbook?
