working with a briefcase

So I didn't know what I was doing when I stuck all of my desktop shortcuts,
game site icons and a folder labeled "my photos" in a briefcase on my
desktop! I thought it was kinda like a 'Win-zip' file or compressed folder to
hold a bunch of misc. stuff.
When I hit the 'update all' of the folders contents it left 2 files and
labeled them 'orphans' but everything else is gone. I dont think I have my
laptop networked with the desktop, they only share an isp connection. Help
where did my files go?

If you have System Restore enabled, restore your PC to a point in time
before you moved everything. Worth a shot anyhow :/
