workgroup logon lockout

Recently, without thinking, I changed a laptop from our
domain to "workgroup" so a colleague could take it home
for the weekend and use it without logging in.

When we rebooted, the logon was still there with no domain
but it would not accept any password (I thought my admin
password was still the same) nor would it accept any user.

Now the laptop makes a good coaster... Any suggestions?

I tried rolling back, safe mode. Yikes!

login is the local admin account, not the domain admin
