Wordpad font

I use windows xp sp2. The wordpad program defaults to arial font for every
new document. Instead of having to change each document to my desired font
type - times new roman - can I change a setting somewhere that will cause the
program to automatically use times new roman upon execution.

This solution is fine if you're composing a new document, but I work with
huge lists of xml files which I need to open, make a small edit, and save.
There ought to be a way to simply make wordpad use a different font all the
time.
I've never had to do "secretarial" work on Windows, so I want to believe I
just haven't asked the right question to the right person.
Basically, aren't there preferences/properties settings for default font in
wordpad?
Or a better version of wordpad which will not change the creator of the
document - these must remain in plaintext for the other processes to happen
to these files.
I could lose this job - or my eyesight - if this isn't resolved.
(Please) - Thanks for the help.

No there isn't. Wordpad is a very simpleminded program. If you need a
fuller featured word processor (and it sounds like you do) you can go
to your retailer and buy MS Word. Or you can go to
http://www.openoffice.org and download Open Office (or just their word
processor). That's a free, open source, quite full-featured office
suite. It may very well fill your needs.
