word2000 not responding

Hello, Cannot open Word files .doc,.rtf etc. by
dbl.clicking item.
Must open Word then search using file-open.
This started after installing SP3.
Have Office 2000 Standard SR-1-SP3.
All help welcomed.

You probably need to reregister Word. At the Start | Run prompt, type

winword /r

and press Enter (note that there is a space before the forward slash and
none after it). It may not seem like anything is happening (or you may get a
message), but Word will have reclaimed its "ownership" of these file types
in the Windows Registry. For more, see

Hello, Thank You. Tried but no joy.
Closed internet connection, av program and firewall.
Followed prompts inserted cd, ran and then rebooted.
Will visit MPVS site. Will return in hope of a solution.
