Word XP - task pane won't go away

Several users, since upgrading to Adobe Acrobat 6.0, have
the problem of the task pane that won't go away.

They click File|New, choose the document type from the
Task Pane, and it should go away, but it stays up on
the screen.

Do you know what might fix this? I've searched the KB
but can't find anything that matches the situation.
