Word templates don't appear where they should

Hey everyone,

Using Word 2007 with Vista Enterprise.

Office button > Save As > choose the "Save as Type" of Word Template. Isn't
the folder directory automatically supposed to change to a designated
"templates" folder so I can access it from Office > New? For me, it just
stays in the My Docs folder and does nothing.

This same thing works fine in Excel and PPT, but not in Word. Any
suggestions? I can't find any settings that would modify this default save
behavior.

What does it say when you check under:
Office Button > Word Options > Advanced > General (Towards the end) > File
Locations > User Templates
?

And then, when you do "Save As," doesn't Word take you to that folder when
you select "Trusted Templates" under "Save in:" on the left hand side?

Also, have you modified anything in "Trusted Locations"?

No. Unlike earlier versions, Word 2007 can use a variety of folders marked
as trusted to store templates. You need to select the specific folder where
you wish to save your templates from the save dialog.

With the exception that, if the template is created as a template from the
outset (by choosing Template instead of Document), Word will default to the
Trusted Templates folder when you first save. This procedure has the
additional advantage that template-specific content (macros, shortcuts,
etc.) will be included in the template, whereas they would not in a
document.

True, but it's actually a little more complex than that. If you create a
template that way, the default Save location is changed to the Templates
folder and, if you then create a new blank document it will also default to
saving in the Templates folder (depending a little on what you do in
between).

Under Windows XP, both My Documents and Trusted Templates are in the Places
Bar, which is helpful. I have yet to figure out how the Vista substitute
works (I don't have Vista and have minimal--and frustrating--experience with
it), but presumably they're accessible there as well. This does help. Even
in Word 2003, one of the first folders I added to the Places Bar was the
Templates folder.
