That doesn't make sense. If you go to Word Options | Advanced tab | Display
section, you can set the number of documents displayed in the MRU.

If that's not your problem, please describe your problem clearly.

I have tried - set for 6 doc, then 12 and 18 - no recent documents are saved
or displayed

The MRU is stored in the registry and what you are experiencing is usually
due to some over-enthusiastic registry tweaker that is inhibiting changes to
the registry. The key is found at
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\File MRU.

But note that this is a dynamic setting. Changing it from zero to 12 won't
suddenly display the last 12 documents. It will only start displaying as you
open, edit, save and close documents.

I have spent hours trying to begin my first MS Word doc. Window says not
enough disc space. I go through the procedure and get to the nice page that
explains how to "give permission to download necessary file from a program
that uses the ribbon." It's suggested that I begin with the MS office button.
No cigar. Please...take my permission, somewhere! Again, sorry for having to
cut in on this thread.

What is your problem. Please explain clearly what you are trying to do and
what is or isn't happening as your post makes no sense.
