word processing will not continue from page 1 to page 2

I am running Windows XP with Office Professional Edition 2002. I am a
teacher and I was typing a test with Word about 3 weeks ago. I reached the
bottom of page one and Word would not move me on to page two. It just sticks
at the bottom of page 1 and won't go anywhere. Since that time I have
uninstalled Office and reinstalled. My computer originally came with a
lesser version of Office and we bought the upgrade to Office Professional.
As such, when I reinstalled, I had to reinstall the first Office program
before reinstalling the upgrade. After reinstalling the original Office
program the problem seemed to disappear but once I reinstalled the Office
Professional it reappeared. I am doing all of this from the print view. The
program will also not allow me to view two pages. I went to Help in Word and
clicked on the button to eliminate special settings and return to default
settings. That did not help either.

Any help will be appreciated.

Does this occur in only one particular document? If yes, then
open the document, and click on Format | Columns | One | Apply
to: Whole document | OK. Even if "One" already appears to be
selected, click on it anyway.

Or does this occur in all new documents? If yes, then locate and
open your Normal.dot file as described in Method 1 in
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/BlankDocNotBlank.htm . Click
on Format | Columns | One | Apply to: Whole document | OK. Even
if "One" already appears to be selected, click on it anyway. Type
a character or two and delete what you just typed. Save the
Normal.dot file and close it.

Thank you very much. It works. Sorry, that we cannot solve the mystery. We
do not know how it happened.
