I upgraded from Windows Me to XP home edition. After all
microsoft
programs-excel,word,outlook are still in their 2000 (windows
Me)
format. Why did they not upgrade to the Xp version (I believe
is
2002 versions of previously mentioned)? Is there anyway i can
get
these programs to 'upgrade' to the XP version?
You're mixing up two completely different things. Windows Me and
Windows XP are operating systems. Excel, Word, and Outlook are
part of Microsoft Office.
Neither Microsoft Office, not any of its component programs
(Excxel, Word, Outlook, etc.) have ever come with any version of
Office. It didn't come with Windows Me and it doesn't come with
Windows XP. Your computer, when you bought it with Windows Me
installed, probably came with Microsoft Office, but note that it
was simply the computer that came that way--bundled as a package
by your vendor--not that Windows Me came with it.
So when you bought Windows XP to upgrade to, it too came with no
version of Office, nor with any othr significant application
programs. What you have left on your drive are the applications
you had originally.
If you want a newer version of Office, I'm afraid you'll have to
go out and buy one. There's no way to upgrade for free. Note, by
the way, that the "XP" in "Windows XP" and the "XP" in "Office
XP" have nothing to do with each other. The "XP" is just a
marketing name, and there's no requirement to run that specific
version of Office under Windows XP. You can run Office 95, 97,
2000, XP, or 2003 (the latest version) or any of a number of
non-Microsoft competing Office products.
So if your Office 2000 programs still meet your needs, you may
just want to stick with them. There's no need to spend the
substantial sum required to upgrade to a newer version.
