Word HTML

I would like to be able to use the mail merge feature of Word to send an HTML newsletter which I normally create using Dreamweaver. The problem is that if I even open the HTML document in Word, it adds a bunch of Microsoft specific stuff which causes problems from some recipients. For example, some of the ActiveX controls that Word adds will be rejected by Outlook if the recipient's Outlook settings prohibit running ActiveX controls. Is there any way to prevent Word from adding all of its own HTML junk?

Depending on the version of Word, you can more or less control what kind of HTML is generated via Tools/Options/General/Email Options. Just activate the things that "filter" the HTML.

Other than that, your only other option would be to use a different application. You'll find a selection of applications that can merge to Outlook email at www.slipstick.com

Cindy,

Thanks for the reference.

I've pretty much given up on using Word and Outlook to send this newsletter.
While applying the filter, gets rid of most of the Word-specific junk, it
still leaves quite a bit.

The other problem I figured out is that if you use Mail Merge, any graphics
that are referenced always get embedded which can make for a rather large
email.

I think I once found a way around that one, a year or so ago (embedding the
link in a QUOTE field, or something like that). But I agree that Word is
certainly NOT the best tool for what you're trying to do.

You might check www.slipstick.com for a list of possible alteratives. And ask
in an Outlook group what they might use :)
