Word has just stopped working. HELP!

When I open a Word file, I can't select any text or type any text within the
document. When I exit Word, I get a message that Word has stopped working and
that Microsoft is looking for a solution. Then the program just exits. I've
shut down and restarted my computer several times and each time, Word opens,
I open a document, then can't select text. Then the whole "Word has stopped
working" routine repeats - to no avail.

I've tested the files on my other computer and they are fine so it's not a
file issue. It's definitely a Word issue since the program itself recognizes
a problem. BUT - how do I fix it? I have numerous deadlines today and can't
afford this down time.

I'm not sure if my last reply went through. The problem is that I can open a
document in Word, I just can't select anything or type anything. Also I am
working with Word 2007.

I wanted to try the template fix - but on Vista I can't click the Start
buttonand then Run. how do you get to the DOS prompt in Vista so I can type
the winword.exe /a ?

Is there help available on the new programs?
