Word hanging

hi folks. I have a problem in that I have a selection of Word documents saved
on my desktop. When I double click these, Word opens up and then hangs before
loading the document.

If I open Word and then load the document, everything works fine!

doesd anyone have any ideas what's going on here?

See what happens if you keep your documents in a folder rather than
the desktop. ("My Documents" works fine and seems to be the default --
you must have gone to some lengths to park them on the desktop.)
