I had same trouble, there is a thread about how to change the registry and I
have a question about that, I entered a long list of numbers and letters ,
then it says
"set data value to 1--or something similar, how do I do that? Help, I don't
know how to start a new thread

Rick,
I had the same problem setting the data value. I think that I changed it by
clicking on edit. If this is the right place it will come up and prompt you
with exactly what you need to do. Otherwise, click on help and search for
data value - that's where I found out how to do it. After you do this - your
problem will be solved !!!

Double click the long string and you will get a dialog with the value
highlighted (Default is 0), change it to 1

Thank you , I did not get it resolved before I went home last night. I hope
it saved the long line I added last night, if not I guess I could start over
again but it is very scary for me, not knowing even what the regristry is.

Mission accomplished, "I Hope", thanks to both of for the advise. It's
easier to do this in the morning rather than after you have been fighting it
all day long. I am surpised there wasn't some kind of announcement from HP
or MS about this, it looks like lots of people lost a lot of work time trying
to figure it out. Well I am going to restart computer now and hopefully it
will work, thanks again.

Well I spoke to soon but found I made an error,in the string before the long
list i forget to include the "{" symbol. I deleted the string and recopied
using the Copy feature,,,(the first time I copied each number -letter
manually) which shows I am not the swiftest user in the world but anyway, it
looks ok now and I am ging for the restart, with my fingers crossed, thanks
again!!

Nick, thanks for your help, especially in being patient with someone not
familiar with working in regristrys etc. You are doing a great service and I
appreciate it. I see a lot of people had this same problem and a lot of work
hours were lost on this problem. I do know now where to turn when I have a
problem like this and it was really helpfull checking here. I see a couple
of posts where people were angry and their anger was pointed in the wrong
direction. You guys do a great job and just want to let you know what a help
it was. Thanks again.

We don't work for MS, we just do this for fun and try and help. Some are
very critical of MS and on some issues, rightly so...on this one, to keep
the world's windows computers safe from attack they had to do something...I
think you call that 'between a rock and a hard place' ;-)
