word docs blocked when attached to email

when I send a document in word as an attachment to my email - on windows mail
- they can't open it at the other end - they get a red circle with a white
line thru it. anyone have a solution to this? thx

Do they have the same version of Word that you do?
The default file type in Word 2007 is *.docx, which earlier versions of Word
cannot read. Word 2007 can be told to save a file as a Word 97 - 2003
document.

You're right the attached doc always show as .docx - I wondered what that was
although when I'm saving the files they show as Word97-2003. Do I use the
convert file?

Yes.

Are you attaching the saved Word document? If so, it should have
a .DOC extension.
