Word background color

I downloaded a template from Microsoft Office Online and it has a green
background and I would like to change it to maroon or burgandy. I cannot
figure out how to do this. Help please! Thank you!

What appears to be a "background" could be any of several effects. In order
to remove it we first need to determine how it was created. It would help to
know _which_ template & what version of Word.
