Word 97 format

I want to put Bible scriptures (ie Act 1:3, etc) down the left side of my document. I went to format, down to column, then over to the 4th preset box. I entered the column and spacing sizes then clicked on ok. Now for my problem. I try to put in my title across the page but the only place I can go to is column 1. That is the only place I can type in. When I hit the tab key the insertion point goes down one line. Am I totaly going about this wrong? Can any one help me do what what I want to do? I am totaly new at this!! HELP Please
TITLE TITLE TITLE TITLE

For this type of layout you'll do better to use a two-column (borderless)
table rather than snaking columns. Start a new row every time you want to
synch the text.

Alternatively, if the text in the right column is continuous, and you just
want bits of text floating in the left column, you can use marginal frames
instead:

1. Create a wide left margin to accommodate the frames. Put the major
portion of your text in the document body.

2. Where you want a marginal note, use Insert Frame (you won't find this on
the Insert menu unless you put it there, but there's a button for it on the
Forms toolbar). The mouse cursor will change to a +, which you use to draw a
frame of approximately the right size in approximately the right place.

3. Remove the frame border by clicking on the edge and selecting None from
the Borders toolbar button palette.

4. Type your text in the frame.

5. Double-click on the frame edge to open the Format Frame dialog. Here's
where you'll fine-tune the frame size and position. Make it Left Relative to
Page (counterintuitively, this puts it just outside the left margin; Left
Relative to Margin puts it inside the margin) and 0" Relative to Paragraph.
Make the height Auto and set the width to an appropriate amount. The default
horizontal distance from text is probably satisfactory, but you can
experiment with that.

6. This is the important part: Once you have done all the above, go to
Format | Style, click New, and give your new framed style a name, such as
Marginal Note. Now whenever you want a note in the margin, type the text in
the document body and apply the Marginal Note style. If the vertical
position is not correct for a specific note, you can adjust it, but
everything else should be just as you need it.
