Word 2007 freezing in Vista

I have a brand new Lenovo X61 tablet PC with Vista Business and MS Office
Professional Plus 2007. While working in Word, the system occasionally
freezes, i.e., screen dims and, although I can move the cursor around,
nothing on the computer functions (including CtrlEscDel). I have to use the
power button (press for 5 seconds or so) to reboot. I think (but am not
certain) that this occurs during automatic backup in Word. I haven't noted
problems in Excel or PowerPoint, but I've only been on the system for a week
(and this is my first experience with Vista). Is this a known problem or is
there a fix?

Ok. I've downloaded and installed 938979. Attempted 938194, but got a
message that said "The update does not apply to your system." I then noticed
that update is for a 64bit Vista and mine is 32. I've opened and closed Word
2007 successfully but the freeze (previously) has usually happened after I
was using Word for a while, so I'll need to wait to see if that happens
again. In the meantime, thanks for your help. I'll let you know if it
freezes up again.

This is a followup of my previous followup (I'm somewhat new at these
discussions and am not sure whether to reply to my previous reply or to your
response, so I chose your response).
Anyway--the system froze again in Word 2007. For sure this time and, to my
memory, at least a couple of times before, the freeze occurred when I was
looking at a very large file (61MB) in Word. I had downloaded something
called "Vista Product Guide.docx" from the Microscoft website, and it is
while I am trying to read that file that Word 2007 freezes and freezes the
whole system. Kind of ironic, no? Is it possible that the size of the file
(it takes a very long time to load) is causing the problems?

I am sure this must have been looked into, when billy made off2007.
But if the processor speed is slow, or ram is less or slow, or some online
active shield antivirus is on, then this ma happen.

tHERE is an option in off2007 to avoid using n accessing online live help.
Stop that also.

James

I expect this to be my last followup re this problem. I've had a couple of
freezes since trying the remedies suggested. The last time, my network
access was turned off, I had PowerPoint open and Windows Journal open, and
attempted to open Word 2007. The first Word screen appeared and the system
froze. This is on a brand new Lenovo X61 tablet PC running Vista Business
and Office 2007 Professional Plus with 2 GB RAM and an Intel Core 2 Duo L7500
LV processor. I've contacted Lenovo support, and their only suggestion is to
try uninstalling and reinstalling the Office 2007 suite, which I will
probably try. This is just FYI, in case it would be useful info for someone
else.

I had indicated I was giving up, but I didn't. Still have regular (meaning
repeated) hangs that require resets. I have been in contact with Lenovo
support and, in addition to suggesting that I downgrade to XP (for some
additional charge), they noted that there was a patch for Vista that
attempted to address a problem with the system speed not being able to keep
up with some stylus input in tablets. They could not cite a number for the
patch. I walked through the available Vista patches and the one that seemed
to address hangs was 938194, a patch you had recommended and which I had
already installed. My question is: are you aware of any other patch that
fits the description the Lenovo people offered? My remaining alternative
will probably be reloading the oeprating system, essentially wipinig out
about 100 hours of troubleshooting (...the joys of technology.)
