Word 2007 faulting under Vista

Guest

Hi all,

Clean install of Vista RTM, clean install of Office 2007 RTM. I cannot
get Word (or Powerpoint) to run (even in Safe Mode), but Excel and Access
work just fine. Event log shows:

Faulting application WINWORD.EXE, version 12.0.4518.1014, time stamp
0x45428028, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 6.0.6000.16386, time stamp
0x4549bdc9, exception code 0xc0000374, fault offset 0x000af1c9, process id
0x1418, application start time 0x01c70c4c0bc8bc43.

I've tried uninstalling / reinstalling to no avail. Any suggestions or
ideas?

Thanks,

-Gary

Never mind...figured it out myself...

Turns out it's a problem with my default printer (a networked laser) driver.

A Dell 5100cn.

It's weird...if I use the drivers that Windows provides it works fine. But
I went out to the Dell support site and downloaded the latest drivers
(version A03.1 - published 11/16/06) and they are the ones causing a problem.

A Dell 5100cn.
That printer made trouble with B2TR already...

Hmm...definitely weird, but very good to know!

Patrick,

I would like to assist in getting a resolution to this issue. Is there
anyone I should notify about the problem? Is it considered an Office / Word
issue or a Dell problem? Since the newer driver works with Excel and Access
it seems to point to the Microsoft side.

Thanks,

-Gary

Also strange that the printer (with the newer drivers from Dell) worked under
Beta 1. Wonder what changed with B2TR that caused it to stop???

MS said for B2TR that the issue (after checking with the Vista team) is
with those Dell drivers. As far as I know, they told Dell that, but I
guess as you had to find out, Dell didn't listen...
If I were you, I'd send this issue Dell's way so that they finally fix
it!

As I just replied to your other message, MS says it's Dell's problem. If
you have professional support (or just anything better than their
average crappy phone support in India) with them, make use of it and
tell them to get on it.
