Word 2007 Crashes on Exit

I've had this annoying problem for sometime. Upon closing Word at the end of
the day, it goest through "Not responding...trying to recover
data...restarting" when all I want to do is exit (and go to bed!). Steps
tried so far include: renaming the Normal template to Old and restart; clean
registry (PC Tools Registry Mechanic); virus scan; disable all Add-ins
(except Smart Tag associated with Outlook); delete registry key using FixIt
as I keep one document open during the day (which is usually a blank page) I
can edit and retrieve multiple documents during the day with no problem. When
it's time to exit the application, it crashes.
