Word 2007 Configuration at start up - SLOW opening

Word opens very slowly because it performs a configuration process every time
it starts?

I should mention that Exel opens fine as well as other Office 2007 program.
Also I did have Word 2000 installed but took it off already and also un
installed the trial version that was on here. So those fixes have been tried
already.

Thank you for the reply . . . but. Word is on only this one computer; always
logged in as administrator. Other versions have been un installed already
like I said.

Found the following

In the Start/Run command box type:

reg add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Options /v NoReReg /t
REG_DWORD /d 1

Hope it helps,

It doesn't matter how many users there are - if this is Vista or later,
right click the icon and choose run as administrator.

I got excited about this answer but when I tried it Word 2007 still does the
configuration thing for maybe 60 seconds. (to get to run as administrator
you have to right click the icon and select properties and then choose
compatibility tab).

Thanks Graham for the information but there must be something else.

It is possible that there are some artifacts of older Word versions still
present that are confusing the issue. Registry entries tend to get left
behind. If repairing the Word installation from the installation media does
not fix it, then it might be worth employing a registry cleaner - though be
very aware that some of them can do more harm than good. My favourite is
RegVac http://www.regvac.com/ but do ensure that it works with your
operating system. Otherwise refer to the
http://www.gmayor.com/Toolbars_in_word_2007.htm page on my web site and add
the registry key suggested there to prevent reconfiguration.
