Word 2007 as Attachments

When I attach a document to an email the recipient can't open it.
Is there a setting I can change so anyone can open my Word document
attachements?

If the reason is that you're sending a .docx file, then you should save the
file in Word 97-2003 format, instead of Word 2007 format.

You can force Word to default to this format -- Office button, Word Options,
Save tab, Save files in this format:
