Word 2003, Word 2007 and Excel Linking problem

L

lorrwill

Some of our computers are still running 2003 and some are running 2007 office
suite. The 2003 users are using the compatibility pack.

We have users that link data created in Excel 2003 into Word 2003 documents
by copying from Excel and using Paste Special, Paste Link, Pictures (Windows
Metafile) in Word.

When a Word 2007 user opens the document created in Word 2003 document, the
spreadsheet links look okay.

But when a 2003 user opens the same document after the 2007 user, we have
had instances of linked spreadsheets from a completely different workbook
than the one originally created in the 2003 doc showing up.

To complicate troubleshooting this, it is not all the tables of linked data,
just one or two.

Has anyone else had this happen, and if so, what is the work around until
such time as all the computers have been upgraded to the same office suite?

thx.

Hi lorrwill,

This has already been answered for you in microsoft.public.word.application.errors. Asking somewhere else isn't going to change the
way Word works.

Actually you did not answer my question.

You first restated the problem, then you linked to your personal website
which was no help and not applicable to me at all.

I hope there is a monitor on this forum because now you have decided to be
insulting as well as no help at all.

As I said at microsoft.public.word.application.errors:
"Unless your situation is suitable for using the relative paths approach outlined at:
http://www.wopr.com/index.php?showtopic=670027, your only option is to configure both systems so that the filepath is the same - all
the way from the drive letter to the source file".

The fact that you don't like the answer doesn't mean the question hasn't been answered - and correctly.

PS: I don't have a personal website. The site I referred you to is a public forum and you're just as likely to be referred there by
anyone else trying to help you with this issue.
