Word 2003 (SP2) freezes

I recently installed Word 2003 as a part of MS Office Professional, then
updated to SP2. Word 2003 now freezes every time I try to open or save a
document, or access any folder from the Options/File Location screen. There
may be other times it freezes that I have not discovered yet. I am running
Windows XP with SP2. What can I do to fix?
