Word 2003 - no double characters, please help!

I am trying to assist a friend with her computer issue. She claims that when
she is in word, she cannot type words with double characters, such as "Book"
or "Good". If you hit a character more than once, i.e.: Book, you get "Bok".
She can go back in and insert the additional 'o' without issue but,
obviously, it's a pain in the butt. The repeat has been set to fast, so
that's not the issue.

Has anyone ever heard of this before? If so, how can it be resolved? This
is not strictly happening in Word, so it leads me to believe that it's a
computer problem, not a Word problem.

Time to get a new keyboard? (Or at least open it up and blow out all
the accumulated dust?)

This could conceivably be a keyboard setting; in Control Panel | Keyboard,
you can set the repeat delay and repeat rate of keys, but that primarily
affects how long you have to hold a key down to get it automatically
repeated.

So it is more likely that this is an accessibility setting. If FilterKeys is
enabled in Control Panel | Accessibility Options, "brief or repeated
keystrokes" will be ignored.
