Word 2003 loses custom property values

Hi,

I'm using a word template that has custom property values. When I
enter values into them they remain in place for as long as the
property window is open and then their values are deleted. This is
realy irritating as the custome properties are picked up by SharePoint
to group related documents.

Any ideas on why my custom property values are being deleted when the
properties window is closed?

Custom properties or built-in properties? You can edit the built-in property
content from the properties dialog but it will revert when the dialog is
closed. Custom properties should, however be retained and stored with the
document.

Graham,

Not sure what you mean with regards to custom vs built-in. I select
File > Properties and then the Custom tab. The properties in question
are not in the list box but do reside in the Properties box at the
bottom of the dialog. I have five properties in there of which only
two retain their value after I click OK.

The uncertainty for me is that when I open up the properties dialogue
it initially dsisplays the SharePoint properties and I have to select
the File Properties button at the bottom of this page to continue. If
I were to enter the required values at this stage then it also loses
the values on acceptance. The SharePoint properties match the five
custom properties I am attempting to enter.

Some values are kept and some are lost. I can see no reason why this
should be so.

I was thinking of those built-in properties that are listed on the summary
screen with text already entered. These do not seem to apply in your case. I
don't know anything about Sharepoint in this context and to what extent (if
any) there is cross contamination. You could try asking in a Sharepoint
forum.

The other possibility is that the template has some minor corruption. Have
you tried testing with a simpler new template?

It sounds like our SharePoint team have installed a patch to resolve
another problem and this may have had a 'knock on' effect to property
saving. I'll update when that situsation has been confirmed (or
disproved).
