Word 2003 is driving my NUTS!

Hi,

Whenever I select an bit of text and apply some sort of style, such as bold,
italics, or bullet point, the entire document has that style applied. When I
then do a CTL-Z(undo), then un puts the document back to the way it was, and
then has the select bit with the style as I originally wanted.

I have to make many changes to the document. Is this something I can turn
off, and just have the bit I select get the style I want.

Someday I hope to have an application that does want I tell it to do, and
not do what 'it' thinks I want!

Most people conveniently forget when they tell Word to do the automatic
style update.
