Word 2003 doc written by another person when opened in IE6 has unwanted Word toolbars

Help please,

When Word 2003 docs, written by another person, (a manual) are opened in IE6 on my computer it has several unwanted Word toolbars. Is there any way I can change the documents so when they are opened in IE6 these toolbars are not present?
