Word 2003 Autotext autocomplete suggestions not working

Autocomplete suggestions is checked in Tools/Options.
The first four letters of each autotext are distinct from the others.
Autocomplete suggestions are still not firing. Even tried renaming normal
dot and letting Word create a new one, and using the organizer, copied the
autotext over. Still not firing. Any ideas?

If you start Word in Safe mode (hold Ctrl as you start the application), then
does AutoComplete work?
