word 2002 flashes when opening...

flashes when opening - but nothing appears. Task manager indicates it's
waiting for me to reply to something (in/from word) but obviously I can't. I
tried reinstalling a couple of times but the problem continues so at this
point word is useless

Any help or ideas appreciated

If you're using Symantec/Norton AntiVirus, try disabling the

no norton - just zone alarm for years and only recently acted as if loaded
but unable to see anything
