Word 2000. Why does each line start with capital letter?

Each new line is starting with a capital letter. I have gone through
formatting, all menus to find out how to stop this.
It is annoying because have to delete & retype each first of line letter

Can anyone help please

Thanks x

Two parts:

1. You have "Capitalize first letter of sentences" checked on the
AutoCorrect tab of Tools | AutoCorrect Options.

2. You are pressing Enter at the end of each line. This creates a new
paragraph, and Word assumes (fairly logically) that the beginning of a
paragraph is the beginning of a sentence.

Unless you have a very good reason for pressing Enter at the end of every
line, don't do it! Let the text wrap naturally. If you do have a good reason
for doing it, then clear the check box.
