Word 2000 on WinXP, cursor malfunction

I have a computer that has been upgraded to Windows XP. It still runs
Office 2000. I have an issue where when creating a new document, the cursor
will become a square barcode icon rather than the I-bar insertion point.
When I move the cursor up to the toolbar and menu bar, the pointer returns,
but anywhere that the I-bar should appear, the barcode icon shows up. I
have gone into the Control Panel to change the pointers, but the insertion
point is configured correctly.

Any suggestions on how to reset the insertion point icon?

Thank you,
Josh Gard

Try updating the mouse software. If it is an Intellipoint or similar mouse,
you should be able to uninstall it from the Control panel, Add/Remove
Programs tab. Remove it and reinstall it.
