HELP.............!!!!!!!!

The other day I posted my problem and got a reply. He said to hit F8 on
keyboard as soon as I begin to boot up. Thanks......but that did NOTHING.
The F8 key got no response from my computer.

Eventually I am shown this:

DELL System 8200 Series
Primary hard disk drive not found

Initializing intel (R) boot agent 4.1.04 PXE 2.1 build 083 (wfm 2.0) RPL V2.74
Warning: Dell's disk monitoring system has detected that drive 0 on the
primary EIDE controller is operating outside of normal specifications. It is
advisable to immediately back up your data and replace your hard disk drive
by calling your suport desk or dell computer corp.

Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the setup utility

*********If I hit F1 it continues to "look" like it's booting up but
ultimately only goes to a page that says:
STOP: C000218 (registry file failure) The registry can't load the HIVE
(FILE): \SystemRoot\system 32\config\software or it's log or alternate. It
is corrupt, absent or not writable

beginning dump of physical memory
dump complete

Contact your system adminstrator or technical support group for further
assistance.

************If I hit F2 it takes me to a page that looks like this:

DELL - Dimension 8200 Series

-system time
system date
primary drive 0.................hard drive
primary drive 1.................unknown device
secondar drive 0...............
secondary drive 1
boot sequence
etc., etc., etc.........on an on goes this list with instrctions at the very
bottom as follows.

up/down arrows to select
space, =, - to change
esc to exit
F1 = HELP

*************Hitting escape only takes me to blue screen with this on it:

STOP: C000218 (registry file failure) The registry can't load the HIVE
(FILE): \SystemRoot\system 32\config\software or it's log or alternate. It
is corrupt, absent or not writable

beginning dump of physical memory
dump complete

Contact your system adminstrator or technical support group for further
assistance.

I'm really dumbfounded by all this and I have only your average
understanding of computer things........on a scale of 1 to 10......I'm a 5 on
computer software things.

Your harddrive has failed.

f8 as you were told is the correct method to start the computer in Safe
Mode. For that to happen however you're system needs to be able to find the
harddrive/operating system. As the error message shows, it can not find the
harddrive.

Buy a new drive (unless you bought the three year warranty from Dell) drag
out those Dell discs and begin the reinstallation procedure. If it is still
under warranty I highly recommend you email for support rather than calling.
