Won't authenticate over workgroup

I have a workgroup network setup. On this network I have a server that I use
to share files. Each folder has permissions set for specific usernames that
need access to those folders.

I have a Windows XP Pro machine that I reformated. Before I could click on
the server under My Network Places and be prompt for username/password. Now
after the format of my XP Pro machine, it does not ask for username/password
when I try to access the server. What it is doing is using my
username/password of my XP machine to log into the server. I dont want that.
I want it to prompt me for my password again.

How do I setup my XP machine so it does not want to use the local username
to log into the server on my workgroup? I want it to prompt me for a
username/password instead of using the local account from my XP machine.

I have no idea what your previous settings were, and most of the experience here
focuses on making authentication work simpler, not with prompting, but I'd bet
that the Simple File Sharing, or the Local Security Policy "Network access:
Sharing and security model", settings changed when you reformatted.

On your XP Pro computer, check to see if Simple File Sharing (Control Panel -
Folder Options - View - Advanced settings) is enabled or disabled. With XP Pro,
you need to have SFS properly set on each computer.

Then check the Local Security Policies (Control Panel - Administrative Tools).
Under Local Policies - Security Options, look at "Network access: Sharing and
security model", ensure it's set to "Guest only", and disable the Guest account.
