WMP Play List.

I don't know exactly what to ask for because I'm not sure of the name.
On the play list, every time I point the mouse cursor at a song on the
play list it displays a whole lot of information about that song in a
dialog box. That box obscures the next 6 songs on the list which is
really annoying. Is there any way to turn it off?

They are called "balloons" or "Pop-up descriptions". If you do not want them
displayed, go here: Open Windows Explorer>Tools>Folder Options>View tab
Scroll down to the last item "Show pop-up description, etc." and uncheck it.
Click Apply and OK. Reboot.
