WMP Died?

S

Sephiroth

Alright, last night I could listen to any sound or music
format I chose to. This morning, if i click a music or
sound file, or try to manually start WMP, it makes that
default 'ding' sound, and nothing happens. I get no error
explaining why it wouldn't start, Nothing appears on-
screen, and that's it. I've tried viewing MPEG clips, MP3
audio, WAV audio, and a couple other formats, but it's
actually WMP that is refusing to start. I actually went
into the WMP folder and tried clicking the executable, and
it just dinged at me and nothing happened. What's going
on? I mean if I had a log I could probably figure it out.

A) Executable is not corrupt for the following reasons:
1) No bad sectors on this drive
2) No virii on this system
3) Does not give me the 'not a win32 executable' error

B) That site gives bad advice. It is a horrible idea to
install over a previous installation. In DOS this was
perfectly acceptable, but in todays advanced OSes,
programs install files all over the place and simply
reinstalling is a bad move unless you completly remove the
app prior to reinstallation. It is also a WMP8 method, not
9.

C) I have Symantec Corporate Edition running the whole
time this system is up, and it is updated frequently, so
virii are not the cause of this problem unless it's
something brand-spanking new that only attacks WMP9. I
scanned for virii as soon as I noticed this problem.

Any other ideas?

Nope. That's not how the installer/uninstaller was written. Uninstalling
will do _nothing_ at all in _any_ case.

Scan for both Virus' and Spyware then reinstall WMP over itself.
