WMP Crash

Aloha all, & Happy Holidays!
I have some AVI files that, whenever I try to play them on WMP v11, WMP
crashes. Sometimes, just single clicking on the file icon will cause Windows
to give me a crash error notification. However, if I play the files through
a different player (like VLC Media Player) the files plays fine. I can even
burn them to DVD and the disk plays fine.
What the heck is going on with WMP? Why does it crash when I try to play
these files?
Thanks.

More than likely with more than 1 plater installed on the OS youre creating
a conflict between the two.In WMP,go to tools,options,file types tab,select
the apropriate files in which to play.Or uninstall the other player...

I only installed the other player because WMP kept crashing, so that's not
it.
Thanks for the stab at it, tho...

You might want to post to the windows media player newsgroup. Make sure you
include the verbatim text of the error.

Hi!

Please, note this finding of mine, which may, or may not, be valid also on
your case ...

When facing the crash/stuck problem with WMP11, and about the same also with
WinDVD4 and RealPlayer10, playing DVD videos and net videos/clips, after a
thorough investigation/troubleshooting I located the problem on my case to be
residing somewhere on the memory stick area, or, maybe on the display
circuit/card area.

On my case there was in question an AMD Athlon 2000+ machine with an
integrated nVidia display circuit and 2x256MB (no pair) sticks, but after
replacing these sticks with 1x512MB the problem was gone! yes, I hope it's
gone and thruth ...

As an assumption, there may have been some kind of very slight problem on the
memory bus or 2x256MB internal speeds, or, maybe on the display card
throughput
capabilites, which popped up first on the extreme load requirements of the
DVD/video playing, as the machine had been functioning all well a long time
before this DVD/video playing need did get actual and the problem arising ...

Best regards,

Pete V.
