WMM XP2, WMV not created properly

Hi!

I'm having a hard time getting WMM to output a movie. I'm trying to "save"
it to my computer, and I've tried several different output setting. Anyway,
the first time, it took a long time to calculate how long it was going to
take and eventually stopped. I assumed that the output setting were too high,
so I reduced them. Eventually I got it to output a couple of versions, but
they have playback issues... I'll get audio but no video.

So, for the error that says, "Cannot complete the Save Movie Wizard"

I've verified that the original source files are available, that the saving
location is still available, and that there is enough free disk space.

For the playback errors, I found some information on the Microsoft website
that might help... It said that if I can hear the audio but not see the
video, I might have a problem with the video codec.

I saw where PapaJohn said that in 2.1 you can look at what codecs are being
used and try to not use certain ones or reset defaults. I tried both and
neither seem to help.

Yesterday, I had tried to use some video from YouTube in my movie, even tho
I know you're probably not supposed to, so I had installed a free version of
ZillaTube. It didn't work, so I used add/remove programs and uninstalled it.
I did the same thing with another program by Applian Technologies called
Replay. Also removed it. SOOO, anyway, when the movie wouldn't output
correctly later in the day, I figured that I must have messed up my codecs.

Since then, I've re-installed the Media Player 9 codecs, downloading and
running wmv9VCMsetup.exe. I also wanted to re-install WMM, but I don't seem
to be able to figure out how to do this thru Automatic Updates. Also, the
support telephone number for Microsoft that comes up on the Help & Support
for media player page is wrong.

One other thing that might help is that when I get the "Cannot Complete the
Save Movie Wizard" screen, there is a button that says, "Learn more about
saving movies." Now, when I click on it, I get a pop-up error that says,
"There is not enough memory available to complete this task. Quit one or more
programs to increase available memory and then try again." That's really
weird!!! I'm working on a new laptop with plenty of memory.

SO, anyway, as you can see, there are a lot of loose ends here, and as a
fairly new user, I'm not really sure where to look next. Can one of you folks
please help me.

Best bet would be to convert your source files
to formats that are compatible with Movie Maker
before importing them.

Many formats are reportedly compatible with
Movie Maker but the most reliable choices are:

Photos - bmp
Video - wmv or dv-avi
Music - wma, wav, .wmv

The following freeware might be worth a try for
the conversion:

Format Factory
http://www.pcfreetime.com/
(FWIW...you may want to uncheck
all the boxes on the final screen)

And...the following articles may be worth a look:

Movie Maker 2 - Problem Solving -
'Can't Save A Movie'

Good luck.
