While struggeling with WMM2 and reading
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/technologies/overview.aspx
i encountered Win Media Encoder9

WMM2 and WME9 enable to import and encode
video content from my Camcorder (Sony PC101E)
in my Vaio GRV516G.
Each way produces a .wmv file that is playable with WMP9

1)Can someone explain in few words the difference
between a WMM2.wmv and a WME9.wmv in respect
to coding?
2)can I import a WME9.wmv for a WMM2 project?

Qs sound naive, however it's not easy for a newbie
to gain overlook.

Hi Gunter,

They both use the same underlying engine.

WME9 has many more encoding options than MM2. MM2 has a nice basic
assortment for quick and easy use.

Yes, you can take movies make in WME9 and use them in MM2.

Guten Tag John.

Does "engine" refer to coding?

The result of one of my WMM2 projects is a 7648 KB .wmv
(Video für Breitbandverbindungen (340 Kbit/s)
I imported this .wmv in WME9 and encoded it.

Might sound foolish - my idea was to crunch the 7648 KB
a little more.
The outcome was a 24814 KB .wmv - blowup instead crunch.
How this, when WMM and WME "have the same underlying engine"

It's all in your choices that you make before you tell it to start the
encoding process.

If you crunch it some more in MM2, use the option when saving to limit the
resultant movie size to whatever you want. Just watch the Kbps figure at the
lower left and the file size at the lower right as you toggle the maximum
file size up and down.

You can do the same with WME, but with lots more choices and settings to
work with.
