WMM shuts down as soon as it is opened. How to reinstall?

Hello -

I've been trying to use Windows Movie Maker, but whenever I start the
program it get window stating that the program has to shut down and asking me
if I want to send an error report. Happens everytime. Does anyone know how
to repair or reinstall. I've checked on reinstalling and it appears that it
can be done, but you have to reinstall service pack 2. I already have sp2
and don't really want to download and reinstall both again.

Can someone offer some guidance?

Thanks

Some users have reported problems
after installing IE7. If this applies to your
situation ...uninstalling IE7 may be worth
a try.

I've also seen a report that disabling the
ffdshow codec could be the fix. To accomplish
this...open Movie Maker and go to...Tools /
Options / Compatibility tab...Uncheck...
ffdshow / OK.

===
(You can disable ffdshow with this command:
regsvr32.exe /u "C:\Program Files\ffdshow\ffdshow.ax"
After running that command, the regular
DivX/XviD codecs will be used instead of ffdshow.
You can enable ffdshow again with this command:
regsvr32.exe "C:\Program Files\ffdshow\ffdshow.ax" )

My problem is similar. Movie Maker loads normally but when I hit "Capture
Video" the horizontal bar stays as a transparent bar, plus MM freezes, and
only control-alt-delete will get out of it. But then, that transparent bar
stays until the computer reboots. Any ideas?

OK I did delete IE7 but that did not fix the problem. Finally I simply
re-installed SP2 and everything cleared up. Hope this can help someone else.

Well now it the next day and the mysterious transparent bar came back, so I
am at a loss to fix it. I also got a firewire camera iBOT and MM will not
recognize it.
I hope someone can give me some idea of what to try next?

MM works with firewire and minidv type camcorders that produce a dv.avi file
type. Your camera does not produce this type of file and probably doesn't
converse with MM in the same manner as a camcorder. Use the arcsoft app
which comes with it. Then convert the file to a wmv to use in MM.
