Difficulty with opening attachments in Windows Mail is a known issue
that is affecting some who installed IE8. You should be able to save
attachments and then open them outside of Windows Mail.
Instead of uninstalling IE8, another option is to upgrade
your email program to Windows Live Mail: http://download.live.com/wlmail
