wlnotify.dll and slow startup

T

Trev

I have found many others complaining about this (wlnotify.dll) suddenly
showing up under their userbname during startup, along with a real decrease
in speed of statup and using applications, but as yet no answers?

What is it?

How do I get rid of it?

Also, I have tried doing a system restore, but each time just get the
message 'your system could not be restored'.

Any help much appreciated.

If you are using a stand-alone computer or if you want to disable verbose
status messages on only one computer, follow these steps:
1 Click Start, and then click Run.
2 In the Open box, type gpedit.msc, and then click OK.
3 Expand Computer Configuration, expand Administrative Templates, and then
click System.
4 In the right pane, double-click Verbose vs normal status messages.
5 Click Disabled, and then click OK.
6 Close Group Policy Object Editor, click OK, and then quit Active
Directory Users and Computers.
NOTE: Windows ignores this setting if the Remove Boot / Shutdown / Logon /
Logoff status messages setting is turned on.
==============

Start | Run | Type: regedit | OK

Go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\system

Look in the right pane for VerboseStatus, double click it and set its value
to 0.

If the following key is present, and if the value is set to 1, status
messages are not displayed:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
\DisableStatusMessages

Thanks Wesley, that got rid of the wlnotify.dll coming up, but my pc is
still slow as heck! It wasnt too bad before that started to appear. Any
ideas if it is likely there are other problems because of that wlnotify.dll
issue? If so, any ideas on repairing the damage?

I have XP Pro, AMD Duron. Clicking on a program now sees up to a 30 second
delay before it comes up, etc.

Thanks again

Trev;

I don't believe the two issues are related.

I purposely set my machine up so that wlnotify.dll comes up at boot.

Have a look here:
