I am attempting to do a certsrv on a Windows Vista Machine with Internet
Explorer 7 and I get to request a certificate. Then it says downloading
activeX and it gets stuck there. How do I get past this point so I can
create a certificate on a Vista Machine.

or use the MMC rather than the web enrollment pages.

Paul,
I saw that article but it appears you need to have Windows Server Longhorn
for these directions. But I don't have windows server Longhorn. Unless I am
misreading the directions. Plus the reason I am doing it this way is because
my PC is not on a domain plus I have never retrieved a certificate using MMC.

What type of certificate are you trying to request. If
the private key is exportable, you could request from an
XP/2000/2003 box, export to PFX, and then import into
your Vista client.

Unfortunately, the fix does require access to the
Longhorn ADCS pages. Only these pages enable the
CertEnroll control that you need for Vista

Brian,
I am trying to get a User Certificate on my Vista Client.
Where can I get the steps to export the Certificate. I am assuming I would
need to export them from my server and import them onto my Vista Box?

Is there a place where I can get the Longhorn ADCS pages?

The web pages do not require Longhorn server. You can install them on
Windows 2003 server.
